Micheal Landon noted that, “Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows.”
No one knows how many days we have left on Earth. All we know is that one day will be our last. That’s a bit somber, but depending on how you look at that truth, it can be inspiring… Inspiring to quit waisting days, do what you want, and live like you are, in fact, dying.
This week I want to recommend an interview from The Dhru Purohit Show, which I highly recommend, that really brought the above reality home to me. In it, Dhru Purohit talks with Jodi Wellmon about how the reality of our mortality can serve as inspiration to stop waisting our precious time as if we have an unlimited amount. Their discussion certainly made me spotlight some aspirations I need to stop putting off. Dreaming up a clear picture of the future you want is the first step in creating the life you want. After all, if you don’t know what it is you want, how can you work to attain it? But, just dreaming about what you wish for and putting it off for some other time will most likely leave you with regrets. To get clear on what you need to start taking action on, find a time you can devote to the following exercise. Pretend you are on your deathbed right now and ask yourself what would you regret not having done. Question whether you’re filling your time with experiences and people that bring you joy, living in an area you like, and pursuing your goals and dreams. Now realize how fortunate you are to still be here to act on your dreams and begin what you’d regret not going for right away. Don’t put the important things off for a time when insert excuses here. Things will never be perfect. You just have to start taking actions. Go for your dreams now. We don’t know how long we have to peruse them.
